the sharp edge of wisdom

libido trailing

the nuanced curve of time

     back to start

wisdom erased

erased by the onionskin membrane

of ganglia

worn to transparency

by the curvilinear

notion of time

     back to start

each membrane sloughed off

slowly

inexorably

down to nub

     back to start

Shining Failures

I dreamt about my failures last night

lined them up

like tin cans on a fence

shining in the sunlight

gleaming

like a set of new pennies

there were so many of them

that my eye couldn’t

really take stock

of a beginning or ending to them

and as I watched them

still and gleaming

I thought about

my willingness to try again

the thought timid and slim

each time

so I packed away each failure

carefully placing a modicum

of success on top,

its shimmer

the last thing I see before I close the lid.

Butterfly Bandages

Paint shut my wound

with butterfly bandages

of pinks and blues and greens

to cheer the unwary

as they land

each in an appointed spot.

Stretch and pivot.

Stretch and pivot

shut.

I look down at the hole

where my heart was,

now covered in flutters

and wonder why.

Pulchritude Sates

Pulchritude sates,

shiny as a silver dollar,

untouched by hand,

spit-shined,

Peremptory in nature

eclipsing the view.

Hormones engage

and fantasies light fires,

a way

to dreams of defilement

burnished by waxy spit.

Yes, pulchritude sates,

and

defilement deafens

as we reach

to touch

its essence.
