The Unmoneyed Eye

Protesting brain,
You occupy me with thoughts of words
Unloved in the world of grown-ups.
 This work-a-day world
Values not the charm of the word
Poised over a heart ready to caress or to wound,
At the pleasure of the speaker.
How unfair to have so wrapped
My mind with valueless words.
Unseemly to the moneyed eye,
Am I.
