Day's End

Day cools into evening.
Its long tendrils wrap into shadow
as Day lets go its hold,
submissively.
Withdraws its heat--
Moon awaits her journey yet.
And in this in-between time,
this time I love best,
with its sense of sinking down
toward ground,
of gradual slowing,
I wrap up the remains of my day
and turn on my favorite reading light,
pull open my notebook
and let pencil fly as it must--
until soul has returned to body
and the moon rises.

  1. really like how the opening and ending mirror each other. Day cools into evening…sinking down…remains of the day…reading light(I instantly thought of a dark room with a dim light upon the page)…returned…moon rises End mirroring beginning, in between a progression and continuation throughout. Really nice write. Thanks

  5. Love the mood here--you communicate your own sense of serenity and appreciation well. The best writing comes when we are so full like that and it just 'must" spill out.

  8. This is very well done, capturing the mood so well. I enjoyed how you followed the setting sun andvrising moon, weaving their journey together to create a strong sense of time and place. The enlivening of your soul by poetry is so heart-felt I could easily myself in the verses.
