The Colors of Words

Lowell Boyers
Immoveable 1 (Open Eyed)
textures of meaning and mindful expansion of the perceptual self

blended dreams
striations of impasto
fill cracks in my psyche
until a universe is created
    to withstand
the blitzkrieg of time’s clucking moments
a peck here
a movement there
a fable created
out of dyes and oils
the pointed connectors of color
binding nuance to canvas
a word to a page

  1. some really neat imagery in this audrey...the striations of impasto....the fable made of dyes and oils...the art....and yes putting word to page is art as well...as you show...smiles.

  2. This whole thing is so gentle, I would like it much better without the "blitzkrieg", which to me doesn't describe the incremental nature of time, nor serve the mood of the rest of the piece. That said, I like the rest of it very much, and if you were writing for texture, you did it nicely here.

    1. Thank you Fireblossom. I went back and read it again--I think "blitzkrieg" does jar the mood a bit--but I also think at my age, that is sometimes how time feels--let me think more on your comment

  3. This is truly beautiful! Describes the creative process, I think, Audrey! And the picture compliments your words so well!

  4. I love the way your words and the art work complement each other. I like the slow pace your poem gives to the movements of time.

  5. I have wondered before if the universe's creation was akin to the artist's way. I think so.

  6. Lovely poetry Audrey. I really like
    "a peck here
    a movement there
    a fable created"
and that final line is perfect.

  7. I think "blitzkrieg" is fine.

The mood and vocabulary of the piece made a great read overall.

  8. It is not so easy to create an abstract piece of writing, and I think you have provided a colourful pastiche of images and emotions which works very well.
