Death's Arabesque

balancing

     waves upon wrinkled eyes

crinkled into sticks

she watches

     the sun

     dance upon the beaming sky

in its movement

toward

     each little death

          toward the in between time

eyes

brown and desiccated

watch the dance unfold

in graceful

     arabesque

          arms pointed toward dusk

  1. a touch somber for such a pretty image. Metaphors very telling, especially the eyes.

  2. Nice formatting of words in the page. This part is dark and foretelling of shadows:

    in its movement

    toward

    each little death

    toward the in between time

  3. Once again, you're phenomenal. This poem carries such deep meaning - so multifaceted and eloquent, and yet, all of us are subject to the spring, summer, fall and winter of our lives...and sunsets, too.

  4. i like how you spin the metaphor here..a very accesible image and filled with fine layers

  5. I've reas it 6 times, more after reading the comments. I am missing something. Could you explain where exactly the metaphor is that everyone sees? >KB

  7. lovely imagery in this audrey....the in between time i find particularly intriguing...as often we measure life in the moments of great action or emotion but the in between times are just as important and will shape who we are...i like the dance too...smiles.

  11. The choice of your words, with such description, makes me feel there must be more words than there actually are - masterful!

  12. I enjoyed this very much. I think you have captured in spare words glorious moments of ecstasy and exultation. For me, it does reflect the flower in the picture that you use at the head of the poem.

  13. I too love the in between times... we all are born and we all will die, but the in between times make us who we are. We can make them what we will... love it!!

  14. I relate to that in-between time. Eyes are the windows. Well written.

  15. You had me at the title. And then, THIS:
    "she watches

    the sun

    dance upon the beaming sky

    in its movement

    toward

    each little death"

    Oh, my.

  19. What an interesting pairing, death and dance. It is not unique; I've paired them before. But your painting of the couple is more delicate and beautiful. Very nice. Thank you for the visit and comment, and I love your banner art.

  24. Wow...a beautiful definition of death...No wonder it is called a new life.

You said it with poise and elegance and not a single sad word...loved it, Audrey!
