Butterfly Bandages
Carl Spitzweg, Der Schmetterlingsjäger
Paint shut my wound
with butterfly bandages
of pinks and blues and greens
to cheer the unwary
as they land
each in an appointed spot.
Stretch and pivot.
Stretch and pivot
shut.
I look down at the hole
where my heart was,
now covered in flutters
and wonder why.
Awwww I hope the butterfly bandages heal the hole as soon as possible. Lovely metaphors through this Audrey. I love butterflies :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Bren--I love them as well---
Deletevery interesting.... i much like the image of the butterfly bandages but the absence of the heart in the closure gave me some shivers as well..
ReplyDeleteThank you Claudia--so glad that you stopped by--enjoy the pub!
Deleteouch...the whole where my heart once was...love the play with butterflies as i find them beautiful...and to cover our scars in beauty i think is a wonderful thing honestly...
ReplyDeleteI like that--to cover our scars in beauty--thank you Brian

Thank you Heaven---
DeleteThat they each have an appointed spot is very intriguing, perhaps speaking to the inevitability of heartbreak or its variegated permutations. I enjoyed this and the image works well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anna--I was thinking about loss on the way home today --
DeleteAudrey, I love this!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ayala!
DeleteGreat metaphors! I can relate to this. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel--smiles back!
DeleteSome great imagery here with a really cool rhythm of its own. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks Fred--greatly appreciated!
DeleteYes, the imagery is fantastic, and I'll be over soon Audrey with a BIG hug. I hope the hole closes and your beautiful heart shines once more. ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you Bradley! Smiles!
DeleteHad to share this with a friend... :)
ReplyDeleteThank you A--much appreciated!
DeleteThis is one of the best treatments of a rather cliche image, the butterfly, that I've read--it is open ended and specific both, very visual, and fits well with the amazing image you chose to go with it. I especially like the 'stretch and pivot' segment.
ReplyDeleteI like that segment as well--Thank you!
DeleteWonderfully evocative and captivating imagery. This is just so brilliantly creative. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you James! And I must say that I loved your piece this week--
DeleteAudrey, this is magical.
ReplyDeleteThank you Neva!

ReplyDeleteThis really reverberates with its irony about how art can heal at the same time that it can steal your heart.
ReplyDeleteFunny how the two can and often do, go together--Thank you Charles.
DeleteLove the thought of the butterfly bandages- covering wounds with something beautiful- maybe to disguise the real damage?...but the last few lines- the hole where my heart was...just felt so sad...asking the question why...a question i ask all the time- i guess its part of life-- the suffering we all have to deal with. Fascinating and powerful poem- totally my kind of write
ReplyDeleteThanks Stu!
