A Healing Wire
cells bring their own happiness
jounce until vibration becomes a foxtrot
or a jig itching to move
on a Saturday night
I watch you heal slowly
winter is an unkind time for debilitation
heat a balm in the snow
I fan out warm clothes
press back my hand
and walk with you in short bursts
we will find out more about dancing cells soon

Note: My dog, Logan, broke his ankle in September. This piece was drafted about 3 weeks ago as we were wondering whether he would need surgery after the casting process. He is doing fine now, and we are rehabbing that leg.

I had to rehab Jasmine after cruciate ligament surgery - so hard on dogs when their legs are injured. Her rehab was very long, with setbacks. I am glad Logan is doing well.
ReplyDeletePoor pupper! But I am so glad to hear he's doing well. I know my dog is not always the most patient patient either. I imagine he was so happy to be moving around more.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear that he's better now ... hopefully he won't need surgery :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful verse! Logan is his own little universe of living cells. I hope their dance will be reflected in his own merriment soon!

ReplyDeleteTerrifically tender poem of hope, with the hoped for return to joy and vivacity just around the corner - loved reading it Audrey
ReplyDeleteWinter is certainly not the best of friends when one is hurting, especially when bones and muscles and such are involved. I am so glad Logan is healing. I hope none of the pain lingers.
ReplyDeleteMy takeaway from the ending of this poem: The best is yet to come!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's doing fine now. Our dog had a stroke last year and we also found he had a couple of calcified discs in his spine, so he's been doing lots of hydrotherapy to get him strong again.
ReplyDeleteAn arresting poem. I'm glad the dancing cells came good.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of dancing cells... winter is an unkind time for debilitation
ReplyDelete- that's a power line! Glad he's better!
