Candyland Revisited
gingerbread
houses line candy apple streets
where
caramel people
go to work in
houses
owned by meringues
who live under
plastic wrap
for
protection
never really
comprehending
that moments
collide
without
warning
sluicing out
the chaff

Interesting metaphor...perhaps it's not so sweet as it looks?
ReplyDeleteLife rarely cares for explanations. It just happens, "without warning", never apologizing. Leaving everyone to live... or else.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the 1962 song that mocked suburban tract housing as "little boxes" of different colors "all made out of ticky-tacky", and which "all look just the same". I forget who write it, but the title was "Little Boxes", I think.
ReplyDeleteWritten by Malvina Reynolds in 1962; became a hit for her friend Pete Seeger in 1963. I remember it well!
DeleteIsn't it amazing how much we dislike each other even when we speak the same language as though we need to compete with each other yet we do like to live in overcrowded cities!
ReplyDeleteI think the colliding moments have been more noticeable of late! I wonder if that will lead to lasting comprehension.
ReplyDeletefine metaphor indeed. my hat is off.
ReplyDeleteYou are just too good, my friend. The metaphor is spot on, sadly.
ReplyDeleteThe New Frontier is before us. Will we welcome it or fight it? Stay tuned!
Minds and thoughts can go stale under plastic. Hearts too. Best to air them out and expose them to fresh air. It might just cut down on the number of collisions.
ReplyDeleteThose last lines are powerful metaphors indeed.
ReplyDeleteooh your piece here is delectable to the senses! well done.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness this is potent! Yes, "moments collide without warning."
ReplyDeleteNursery Rhyme meets Beatles song. I have to admit it made me hungry.
