So intriguing--it leaves me extremely curious about the speaker and the full tale behind this glimpse.
ReplyDeleteLove this Audrey a beautiful and richly effective piece - went to copy out my favourite line and ended up copying it all! That says it all...
ReplyDelete"If ears had replaced mouths " what a vastty different world it would be!
ReplyDeleteThat last line...dang! It really pins the whole thing up so nicely and makes you wonder what could have been.
ReplyDeleteOften, listening is more important than speaking. It's difficult, even for people who consider themselves good listeners.
ReplyDeleteI especially liked the febrile air destined for vacuous couplets. Fine work, Audrey!
ReplyDeleteSo many are more interested in speaking than listening!

ReplyDeleteHad to chuckle at if ears took the place of mouths. Love it.
ReplyDeleteOh my! The fine art of listening! Why did it take me so long to realize the value of that? You are aging like a fine wine, my friend. You work is sublime to the max!
ReplyDeleteListening is a lost art
ReplyDeleteYes, this definitely raises my curiosity. Listening is not a gift many seem to have these days.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't everyone like "had ears taken the place of mouths"? A great line.
