Hard Nut Exposed

A cubicle of steel
containing thousands of
hardened nuts of thought
shake it
and they fend for themselves
in the battle
shake
crack
peel away
vulnerable
all the meat exposed
no matter the consequence
all of us
end there
a hard nut
exposing tender meat
to the environment
of those who would pick
shake
crack
peel away
vulnerable meat exposed

  1. nice..think it's good to crack and peel those layers to get to the meat, it's powerful and the mind gets soft for new thoughts...even though it makes us vulnerable and something in me shouts: risk, risk! but guess it's worth it..

  2. I do think to get to know anyone we have to expose the soft flesh, anything less is superficial, isn't it? Yes, it does leave us vulnerable though.

  7. Some of us have learned to harden our skin, specially when we have sad and painful experiences of exposing our vulnerability~ Nice thoughts ~

  8. Excellent analogy--almost makes you wince a bit from the cracking and shaking, a physical reaction. Enjoyed it, Audrey.

  12. Makes the reader realise to see insight, the stripping has to progress, what lies underneath is always tender realisation, great poem love xoxo

  13. Stripping away the hard casing ('cubicle of steel') to expose the meat inside ... vulnerability profoundly expressed in this piece.
