Time's Course

the branch of things moves silently

upon a river with no name.

i hold its ebb and flow

tightly within

splayed fingers

unknowingly

spilling its heart in rivened tears

thinking that time will stand still.

each drop falls

returning home

as it flows on

without me.

  1. This is lovely, Audrey. I like the idea of the nameless river and also of each drop returning home....

  3. I see the spread fingers, the delta and the passage of time flowing ever onward to the sea. Very affecting poetry.

  6. Beautiful Nasa shot. And isn't this unknowing hurt of the branch of things too common? I'm assuming the branch is held by a first person demi-god--or maybe the recycling has to be done so that what has already been hurt can heal? Perhaps I'm reading it all wrong and the things we loved got in the way of our better nature. Maybe it is the river we see--held in fists too tightly as we try to stay ...

  9. Your poem made me think that we are not the masters of time. It can go with or without us.

it flows on through and around us....
