Loops and Such

I write words like loops
which I pull through with my crochet hook
designing hats and scarves and blankets as I go
intricacy unfolding

engage, yarn over, pull through
write, erase, rewrite

these projects which failed to call to me all fall
feel the pinch of Christmas looming
and while I write
I count squares of blankets in my head
and wonder why I leave things until
the very last minute

  2. Loops and re-loops, ad infinitum...until it's all finished...yes - that is so much like writing. One word after another, the storyline loops and then you suddenly discover that...you're done! You'll get there. ;)

  8. Procrastination always seems has a reason: we not really like to do particular things..so since you like crocheting I'd use this activity as reward :) Happy Holidays to you!

  9. I like your comparison: writing like the loops. And how relatable, waiting till the last minute!

  10. It's interesting how the end of the year makes many of us feel the need to complete projects and clear the slate for another new year. I feel the same way. Loved reading this poem.

Audrey, Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and all the good things in 2014! :<)

  22. We are on the same wavelength. I once wrote about writing poetry being like making Celtic knots! Christmas looming made me think of a loom for more weaving!
