The Stillness
The Boat
The MorgueFile
we find rest where we can
in slips and covers
with notices pending
our to-dos tightly knit
upon our foreheads.
we think of night, its blackness,
a movement upon a sea of thoughts;
dreams we loosen in the
slipstream of the moon,
never noticing
their path,
an ebb and flow through
until we find,
stillness.

When we dream.. we often leave our troubles behind.. the moonlight streaming in through the window.. weaves a trail of stillness and calm. Beautifully penned :)
Lots of love,

Thank you Sanaa--your's as well!
ReplyDeleteIn night we definitely find our deserved rest...and in those dreams, such stillness. I enjoyed this, Audrey.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary!
DeleteAs someone who has sleepless periods, I welcome the peacefulness conveyed by your poem and can relate.
ReplyDeleteOh I can relate to sleepless nights! Take care and thank you!

ReplyDeleteThank you Vandana!
DeleteWow, Audrey, splendid! To be so tied into worry that sleep must sneak in like this! You have captured the tide! Poetry gains. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteNice movement in this. Somedays the journey to that stillness takes more time to find. A restless mind - I get it far too often and it takes great intentionality to still it.
ReplyDeleteI love the dreamy way to come to the stillness at last....a beautiful read...
ReplyDeleteI love this poem, Audrey. Each line reveals a new facet of experience which seems so familiar, but beautifully poetic in your hands.
ReplyDeleteThe only true rest is when our heads shut off from conscious thought - which is no mean feat..hopefully sleep comes and allows us to un-peel the to do lists from our heads..
ReplyDeleteI needed this today. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully constructed and full of emotion, thought provoking poem.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written!
ReplyDeleteAudrey,
ReplyDeleteI recognised the manner of night sleep, when To-Dos are pinned onto an over tired mind..So glad to fall into the lap of night-time..

Great poem.
This is constructed so beautifully! I adore this.
ReplyDeleteI really like the feeling of the difficulties, finally merging with the night in sleep..
ReplyDeleteI too could travel in that boat! I love the feel of the "slipstream."
ReplyDeleteThe is a great description of falling asleep.
ReplyDeleteLove the way that final word rests there in the last sentence, solitary and... still. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
