A Leaf Smiles
The Morgue File
It fits somehow
that leaves fall
in the wake of tears
leaving behind what they have known
They smile as they touch the earth
grace the soil
with joy.

A lovely & haunting message attached with this one, for perhaps, we hope that Gold/Nature/the Universe has a plan; yet I still wonder about mosquitos.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a joyful poem, thank you, Audrey, for giving us a new way of thinking about falling leaves. Not melancholy but gracing the soil with joy. Just perfect!
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous poem, Audrey, and a wonderful image to go with it :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. It's amazing you could share so much about yourself in such a short poem. But, I think your heart comes through here so well.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDelete"They smile as they touch the earth
ReplyDeletegrace the soil
with joy."
I think your poem says a great deal about how we should live and die, letting go of sorrow and embracing joy, up until the very last brush sweep of leaf against ground.
Gorgeous and so touches me - they smile as they touch the earth...." amazing stanza.
ReplyDeletethe new life they bring makes me joyful as well... a circle of becoming and ending and in the ending pave the way for what comes next
ReplyDeleteFlow of LEAVES are drips of TEARS
ReplyDeleteFEARS now spend.. where breeze DROP
go.. oh.. CYCLE of SADNESS

So, beautiful and philosophical, we too will leave this earth one day.
ReplyDeleteAudrey - this is perfect and leaves me thinking: Ah, if we could all die this way.

ReplyDeleteThere's a beautiful delicacy to these words ... the kind of piece that gently tumbles and floats round the edges of one's consciousness and confers a lovely calm.

ReplyDeleteSo delicate and beautiful. I loved it.
