Magical Lives

we think we see them as we pass by
a man, a woman, a child, a crone
tenderly touching their dog or cat
stroking
watching us

a frank stare
a brutal glance
a head bumps up to meet powerful fingers
a pat, a scratch
a thought

did we think their thoughts unable to bind
to shrink wrap the denizens of imps
and place them in our pockets
as we pass

we think we see them
we think

Wisdom's Heart

Seek me not for I am lost to you.
I visit those tender places of the heart
unsought,
where the hungry fill streets
with cries unheeded,
and where the dying tilt their heads
to listen for my approach.

In compassion, I see them,
those you have forgotten.
In empathy, I hold them,
those you have forgotten.
In hope, I touch each one,
as I touch you,
until you too, remember.

The Salve of Darkness

wikimedia commons
'''Darkness Over Eden''' Photo taken by Kabir Bakie May 2004

Darkness spills itself into corners
hides my sins
beneath papered tunes
it pours behind knees
invading that crease in my pants
and the light
switched on
only lengthens
the shadows left behind
my japing thoughts
they embarrass me
so I switch off the light
and let the darkness
wend its way
across pillows and cushions
finding its comfort.

Images Against a Darkened Sky

wikimedia commons
Bresson Thomas, 2011

wrapped threads
shimmer
just out of reach of
pinioned sky
telling their
sawdust tales
to ears
heralded
by silken wire
made brittle
wrapping tighter
around the bobbin
of brain matter
left unconcealed
a stillness
released
into the loneliest of cries

Morning's Turn

I got this up fairly late yesterday and thought i would let it carry over for today--

Thank you for reading

Sick Woman, 1665, by Jan Steen

Lady of my heart
you pale in morning's moment
as chore and turn has
ended flux
and morning's freshness
moves toward the bleached
head of blushes
unknown two moons past

you herald morning's kiss
as quickly as I herald its passing
how now to move
with child heavy within you
and time's ticking
an end to young love

The Party

From the Hubble Telescope

ubiquitous moment
the turning of eye
unshod pattern of time’s skirt
lashed to the mannered politeness
of social norms

the patter of sibilance
 murmuring across cocktailed dresses
breeze mouthing at hem and sleeve

hearts poured out onto toast points
meant to hold bruschetta,
the brittle loneliness
soothed by a waft of Chanel

a wine spritzer,  a tingle
to alert tongue to words
no one really wants to hear

and
all the while
the skilled strings of Vivaldi
float underneath
the heartbreak of the wealthy

Ignition

wikimedia commons

You sat inside me
rolled up
like a blunt

waiting to be lit
fire is after all a type of ignition

I have a match in my pocket
let's go

Singing Totems

wikimedia commons
anonimo 1

First lesson of the season

I sat

as you

described your new singing totem,

a face covered with text,

English, Russian, Italian,

mouth shaped in a perfect oval

hands dripping

strings and ribbons,

tiny bottles swinging

from each one,

messages rolled up inside.

Each one a gift,

a flowering,

a promise made

and fulfilled

as you found

a bit more freedom

to sing

the music that moves you.
